In Amersfoort he painted distinct cityscapes, particularly focusing on the Zuid- and Westsingel, characterized by warm brown and earthy tones. Wolter’s Market Day in Amersfoort, we see these brown and earthy tones, an everyday scene where people come together on a vibrant market place. Examples of his Amersfoort works can also be admired at the Museum Flehite in Amersfoort where his works are permanently displayed.

Wolter’s art is featured in the collections of various Dutch museums, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Stadsarchief Amsterdam and Singer Museum in Laren.
From 2 December 2023 to 1 April 2024, on the occasion of the 150th birth year of the artist, an exhibition titled Wolter and Water is organized by the foundation Friends of the painter H.J. Wolter at Museum Flehite.
