Signed 'Koets' (upper right); framed. Stable craquelure in places, upper edge rubbed, very light imprint of the stretcher, minor surface grime, otherwise in good condition.
Notes: After Koets registered for the exhibition in Veere in 1919, he never left the town, earning a nickname the 'Veerse Van Gogh' later on. When Charley Toorop returned to Veere after the Second World War, she was so impressed by Koets' work that she arranged a scholarship from Paris for him through Bram Hammacher. Unfortunately, Koets, who suffered from the so-called 'artist's disease' (manic depression), could no longer take advantage of this offer (source: schildersvanveere.nl).
