Signed and dated 'L. Schelfhout 1929' (lower right), titled, signed again, inscribed with studio address, insurance value and 'Tentoonstelling Brussel' (on a handwritten artist's label preserved on the reverse); framed in contemp. frame (damaged). Occasional small losses with inpaint, edges sl. rubbed by the frame, sl. scratched by nails along the edges.
Notes: Lodewijk Schelfhout was the first Dutch painter influenced by Cubism. He was the founder of the Genootschap van Kunstenaren Moderne Kunstkring with such members as Piet Mondriaan, Jan Sluijters and Leo Gestel. In Brittany Lodewijk Schelfhout worked together with his friend artist Conrad Kickert.
