Gracht met schepen / Canal with boats (1946)

Beschrijving

Signed and dated 'A VAN DER FEER '46' (lower right); framed under passe-partout behind glass in contemp. frame with an exhibition label on the reverse. Unexamined out of the frame, two waterstains (centre right and at the lower edge), else apparently in good condition.

Exhibited: Tentoonstelling van Amsterdamse schilders, 1948, location unknown. Notes: Anneke van der Feer was a student of Harmen Meurs, and although her work shows some resemblance to her teacher's, her way of painting was more 'primitive' and rough. She and the cinematographer Joris Ivens became lovers in the 1920s. Together they moved to Moscow, where they lived and worked for several years. Her work is part of the collections of Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem; Pushkin Museum, Moscow; and other museums.
