Often a forest dominatedby the vertical lines of birch trees. Nowadays, he paintslandscapes in a loose, gestural style, onto which he prints humanfigures using a linocut. These figures are, as it were, actors thatVersloot can move about the picture plane at will, to create anarrative. On a formal level, he plays with the convergence of thetwo techniques by giving the printed figures a painted shadow or byplacing painted people next to them. As is also the case with hisdrawings, Versloot is careful to create a clear, cohesive image. The human figures always imply a narrative, leaving the viewer withunanswered questions. Ronald Versloot was resident artist at the Rijksakademie in1987-1990.He won the Jeanne Oosting Prize (NL) in 1993.
