Signed 'Sluijters Jun' (lower left). Very good condition. Provenance: Collection Marijn de Koning; acquired directly from the artist
Notes: Jan Sluijters lived and worked in Baambrugge from 1945. In this paining he depicted the 17th century country seat Valk en Heining (or Valkenheining), which was the residence of the artist's acquaintance Euphemie Elisabeth Ruys-Van Houten at the time. The name Valkenheining derives from the surnames of the mayor of Amsterdam Cornelis Valckenier and his wife Catharina van Heyningen, who were the first residents of the estate in 1685. In the foreground of the painting we see an early 20th century garden designed in the style of Dirk Frederik Tersteeg. In 1969 the house was bought by the family of Dutch golf legend Robbie van Erven Dorvens, godfather of the KLM Open (formerly known as the Dutch Open Tournament). The mother of his children, M. Vinke, still lives on the estate on the Angstel.
