Signed in the plate 'J.Toorop' (lower left corner), titled (lower centre), signed again and inscribed in ink 'aan mijn vriend Lourijsen' [for my friend Lourijsen] (lower right), from an unknown edition, second state

Paper slightly discoloured, few tiny foxing spots in places, apparently in very good condition. Framed behind glass, sheet loose in the frame.

Provenance:
Gifted by the artist to Lambert Lourijsen, the grandfather of the present owner.

Notes:
Toorop gifted this etching of his daughter Charley, to his student and good friend Lambert Lourijsen (Dutch 1885 - 1950). Lourijsen married Henriëtte Straatemeier, the grandmother of the current owner of the etching, in 1914. Jan Toorop was as witness at their wedding.
Three other versions of this print, entitled "Ziek kind" are also in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
