Beschrijving
Christian Dotremont (Belgian 1922 - 1979), on deckle edge Japanese paper.
Condition Report:
Slightly timestained with some foxing spots (mostly along the upper right edge), handling creases throughout with a larger vertical crease in the centre left, some superficial scratches in the lower right and slightly waterstained along the lower right edge, overall in good condition. Adhered to the support in places on the reverse of the sheet.
Provenance:
From the collection of Guy Dotremont - the artist's brother.
Private collection, The Netherlands.
Acquired from the above by the present owner.
Notes:
This artwork showcases a visual play between poetry, text and imagery - Dotremont's well known invention, which he called Logograms. Dotremont, co-founder of the CoBrA movement, started experimenting with these graphic poems around 1962, in which he searched for the relationship between text and image. The poet becomes the artist - the painter of texts.
