Ink, gouache, sugar and glue on paper, collage, with contemp. typed address label 'herman de vries p.bernhardstr.21" wageningen' mounted on the reverse (authenticity confirmed by the artist's daughter), with contemp. inscription 'Paleis H Horten P en C' (on the reverse); mounted on cardboard and framed under passe-partout in plexiglass box. Light foxing, several creases and a small closed tear to paper sheet (collage not affected), else in good condition. Provenance: Private collection; Cor de Nobel, Groningen, 2007; Galerie .31, Dordrecht
Notes: Early work by Herman de Vries from the Informal collages (1956-1962) series. 1957 was the year Herman de Vries was discovered by Willem Sandberg and had his first group exhibition in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. First owner Cor De Nobel also worked as an artist in Dordrecht since 1956 but he wasn't very successful. His gallery, Galerie .31, however gained a high reputation as 'De proeftuin der Informelen'. This delicate work remained in his possession until 2007 when he sold it to the present owner.
