Notes
Jan Eversen, a descendant of Adrianus Eversen whose works are also present in this auction, picked up painting relatively late - only in 1933. Although he started off as a portrait painter, quite quickly, he switched to still lifes inspired by Dutch Old Masters such as Willem Claesz. Heda. In order to become acquainted with the 17th century oil techniques, Eversen studied the methods of conservation from a professional art restorer. With the passage of time, the artist began to include more challenging elements in his compositions. These works fully demonstrate Eversen's skill in the depictions of glass or silverware and difficult to render textures such as oysters or loaves of bread. His still lifes are praised for their luminosity and gracefulness.
