Signed 'Eyck' (lower left), signed again and titled (on the reverse), with an exhibition label of Singer Museum, Laren (on the stretcher); framed. Small canvas irregularity in the upper centre (original condition), some tiny losses of paint, edges unvarnished, else in excellent condition.
Exhibited: 'Charles Eyck, een moderne meester: collectie J.P. Beijer', Singer Laren, Laren, 1995, nr. 26. Provenance: Private collection; acquired directly from the artist. Notes: Deaf from an early age, Charles Eyck found his expression in painting and writing. He was a versatile artist, who sculpted, painted ceramics and also made several murals and stained-glass windows for Catholic churches in the Netherlands and France. When commissions for stained-glass windows diminished, Charles Eyck took up painting to depict his native soil Limburg. This particular piece, painted near his house between Valkenburg and Schimmert, is a beautiful example.
