Biografie: Juan Genovés
Spanish painter and graphic artist, born in Valencia. He studied at the School of Fine Arts there, and in 1958 settled in Madrid. His most characteristic paintings feature crowds or groups of anonymous figures, seen from a very high viewpoint, threatened by some unseen but alarming force. They suggest the brutal use of power and the terror of the oppressed fleeing before it, but their character is quasi-metaphysical rather than crudely political.
