Signed in pencil 'Constant' (lower right) and marked 'épreuve d'artiste' (lower left); framed under passe-partout behind glass. Unexamined out of the frame, apparently in very good condition. Artist's proof before the regular edition of 99 + X.

Provenance: Private collection; private collection; Kunsthandel Juffermans, Utrecht. Notes: The album 'Plaisir et Tristesse de L'Amour' [Pleasure and sadness of love] consisted of five etchings in colours, with text by Fanny Kelk. The etchings were based on a series of five paintings that Constant painted between 1975 and 1978. This particular piece is also known by the title 'Cyrano déclare son amour' [Cyrano declares his love] (source: website of Fondation Constant).
