Beschrijving
Signed, dated and inscribed with number 'Zandvliet 97' L # 99/031' (on the stretcher). Craquelure in the centre, good condition.
Provenance: Collection Thom Mercuur, founder and first director of Museum Belvédère, Heerenveen. Notes: Contemporary Dutch artist Robert Zandvliet frequently paints with self-made tempera. Tempera is a challenging medium, since it dries fast and thus requires planning ahead in order to avoid mistakes. Bold lines in Zandvliet's paintings suggest a certain nonchalance, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Zandvliet carefully plans each line, and all the brush strokes remain visible due to the transparency of the medium.
