Signed and dated 'Willy Moes. 88' (lower right); framed (one chip). Edges sl. rubbed by the frame, hairline craquelure throughout with several small losses (incl. one with inpaint lower left), minor surface grime in places, else in good condition.
Notes: In 1884, shortly after graduating, Wally Moes went to the art colony in Laren. By then she had already exhibited a painting in the Paris Salon and had been introduced to the art world by Thérèse Schwartze. She stayed in Laren until her death, so she was part of both generations of artists in Laren. The first generation consisted of Jozef Israëls, Isaac Israëls, Anton Mauve a.o. and the second one of Otto van Tussenbroek, Salomon Garf, André Broedelet a.o.
