Harbour of Veere

Beschrijving

Signed 'Matth. Wiegman' (lower right); framed under passe-partout behind glass. Unexamined out of the frame, some surface grime, else apparently in very good condition. Frame size 71 x 82 cm.

Notes: Matthieu Wiegman was an important member of the Dutch art movement known today as the Bergen School. But he was also one of many, mostly foreign painters infected by "the sweet disease that you could call Veerism." Although they sometimes worked shoulder to shoulder on the waterfront, they each portrayed Veere in their own particular way. As can be clearly seen in this characteristic Wiegman.
