Compositie

Beschrijving

Signed with initials 'P.O.' (lower right), signed 'P. Ouborg' and titled (on a paper label on the reverse of the frame), framed in the original frame with exhibition labels of Dienst voor Schone Kunsten, The Hague, on the reverse (artwork title on the label reads 'Dier in actie' [Animal in action]). Edges sl. rubbed with small loss of paint along the left edge, some (scattered black spots of) surface grime throughout.

Dimensions: frame size 53 x 45 cm. Exhibited: Ouborg, Dienst voor Schone Kunsten, The Hague, 1953, no. 20. Provenance: Private collection; acquired directly from the artist. Notes: One source of inspiration for Piet Ouborg was the Spanish painter Joan Miró (1893 - 1983). Other inspirations were the mystic, the spiritual and the subconscious. Between 1916 - 1938 Ouborg worked as an art teacher in the Dutch East Indies. This fine painting clearly shows the deep impact of the Eastern culture and art on Ouborg's work.
